Rated Class A Reviewed in Volume #21, Issue #9
Design Features
Automatic Load-Sensing Class A Biasing affords ultra-low distortion at all listening levels.
The two stage design uses a pair of Boulder 993 gain blocks per channel for exceptional input buffering, voltage gain and fully balanced operation. The output stage uses eighty output devices and forty-eight filter capacitors per chassis to assure stable, high power output into any load - even below one ohm.
Special attention is given to isolate the audio signal from all sources of interference. For example, the nickel plated steel sub-chassis
housing two fully encapsulated power transformers minimizes a major source of noise and
vibration.
Machined heat sinks and clever chassis design minimize resonance.
Custom engineered gold plated speaker terminals are without equal for strength and
low impedance.
Lasting value requires that each component be of the highest quality, and the design must
accommodate future improvements. All Boulder 2000 series products follow this dictum.
The 2050 Power Amplifiers are a rare combination of technical excellence and luxury.
2010 Isolated Balanced Preamplifier The heart of a great music system lies within the Preamplifier.
With the 2010 Preamplifier, the challenge of creating a truly neutral remote controlled preamplifier has been met. To achieve this elusive goal, a new volume attenuator and gain stage was created. Boulder designed an extremely precise, tonally neutral distortionless solid-state attenuator capable of 0.1 dB steps over a 100 dB range.
The new Boulder 993 gain stage allows the full potential of this superior volume control to be
appreciated. Providing extensive microprocessor controlled features while maintaining noise

2020 Advance Digital to Analog Converter Redefining Digital's Capabilities.
Design Features
Instead of using ICs intended for video amplification, Boulder uses five 993 gain stages in each channel. The first 993 is used for current to voltage convertion at the output of the DACs; three more compromise the 6-pole Bessel anti-imaging analog filter for the best transient response; a fifth unit provides balanced audio output.
This attention to analog performance is simply unprecedented. Total crystal re-clocking completely eliminated jitter, and an eight times oversampling FIR digital filter produces superb transient response. Five Burr-Brown DACs in parallel per channel significantly lower distortion and increase accuracy to theoretical limits. Boulder's unique three-chassis design affords maximum isolation between digital and analog circuitry. The separate power supply chassis houses independent regulated supplies for each channel, as well as the digital / display chassis.
The Advance feature further separates the Boulder 2020 from the competition by creating the virtual relocation of stereo center relative to the listening position.
Normal balance controls adjust levels between audio channels- adequate if your listening position is only a fixed point equidistant from your loudspeakers. The Advance feature allows superb stereo imaging even when the recording or listening position is less than ideal. The time Advance feature can be programmed for several listening positions with easy return to normal settings.
